Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, previously seen as adversaries in Knives Out (2019) and The Gray Man (2022), have reunited in the Apple TV+ action rom-com Ghosted, offering audiences a refreshing and delightful experience.

In their latest on-screen collaboration, Evans and de Armas demonstrate a captivating dynamic, reminiscent of Han Solo and Princess Leia, full of playful banter and undeniable chemistry.

A Whirlwind Romance Turns Action-Packed Adventure

Ghosted, now streaming on Apple TV+, tells the story of Cole (Evans), a salt-of-the-earth type, and Sadie (de Armas), an enigmatic woman who share a passionate 24-hour date after a chance encounter at a farmer’s market.

After a dozen unanswered texts, Cole believes he’s been ghosted by Sadie, leading him on a wild adventure from London to global locales in an attempt to win her back.

However, Cole’s surprise visit to London inadvertently interferes with Sadie’s CIA mission, forcing them to work together in order to survive and save the world.

Revisiting the ’90s Action Rom-Com Charm

Ghosted serves as a nostalgic throwback to the feel-good action rom-coms of the ’90s. For Evans, it was a chance to get back into the genre after a long stretch of action and drama films.

He describes the film as “comfort food,” something that is easily re-watchable and enjoyable.

A Role Reversal in Action

Director Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman, Eddie the Eagle) saw a unique opportunity to showcase Evans as the “damsel in distress” while de Armas takes on the role of the action hero.

Evans found playing a more vulnerable character both refreshing and enjoyable, offering a change of pace from his usual heroic roles.

Ghosted, now streaming on Apple TV+, tells the story of Cole (Evans), a salt-of-the-earth type, and Sadie (de Armas), an enigmatic woman who share a passionate 24-hour date after a chance encounter at a farmer’s market.

Ana de Armas’ Commitment to Stunts and Action

De Armas took her role in Ghosted seriously, training harder than ever for her fight scenes.

She wanted to ensure the action looked legitimate and was determined to prove that a woman can carry an action-packed movie.

Her dedication to perfecting her stunts and action scenes was both exhausting and rewarding.

Adrien Brody as the Charming Villain

Oscar winner Adrien Brody plays Leveque, a sinister black market arms dealer and Sadie’s primary adversary in the film.

Brody’s casting as a villain in an action rom-com was an unexpected choice, but it was the opportunity to work with de Armas again and the allure of playing a complex character that drew him to the role.

Dynamic On-screen Banter and High-Stakes Action

The romantic tension between Cole and Sadie is heightened by their constant bickering while they navigate life-threatening situations.

The spirited exchanges between the two characters, combined with their undeniable attraction, create an engaging on-screen dynamic that keeps the audience invested in their journey.

A Memorable Climax and Future Collaborations

The film’s climax, featuring a spinning restaurant fight scene, was both challenging and memorable for the actors.

Both Evans and de Armas went through intense physical challenges to pull off the scene, resulting in bruises and minor injuries.

Despite the challenges, the two stars enjoyed their time working together and are looking forward to future collaborations, with Evans suggesting a musical as their next project.

Ghosted is a delightful action rom-com that offers a fresh twist on the classic formula.

With engaging performances from Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, audiences are treated to a thrilling adventure filled with romance, laughter, and high-stakes action.
