Trap, M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller, will be released in theaters on August 9, 2024.
The movie follows a father and daughter at a concert that turns into a dangerous trap to catch a serial killer. Find out more about this psychological thriller right here!
Night Shyamalan’s new horror-thriller, Trap, will be released on August 9, 2024.
This release date was announced in February 2023, shortly after the debut of his previous film, Knock at the Cabin.
The trailer, released at CinemaCon 2024, has already sparked intense speculation and excitement.
It reveals that the protagonist, Cooper, is attending a concert with his daughter, Riley, where an unexpected and sinister plot unfolds.
Trap centers around Cooper, played by Josh Hartnett, and his teenage daughter Riley, portrayed by Ariel Donaghue, as they attend a concert by Lady Raven, played by M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, Saleka.
The concert is revealed to be a trap set by police to catch a notorious serial killer known as The Butcher.
The twist comes when the trailer suggests Cooper might be the elusive Butcher, adding a layer of psychological suspense typical of Shyamalan’s style.
Josh Hartnett stars as Cooper, marking his first collaboration with Shyamalan.
Hartnett, known for his roles in Halloween H20, 30 Days of Night, and Penny Dreadful, brings a wealth of experience in the horror genre.
Ariel Donaghue, playing Riley, is recognized for her role in Wolf Like Me and brings a fresh perspective to the cast.
Saleka Shyamalan, an accomplished R&B singer and daughter of the director, makes her acting debut as Lady Raven.
Her music, integral to the film’s narrative, adds depth and authenticity to the concert scenes.
Other notable cast members include Hayley Mills and Alison Pill in undisclosed roles, adding to the film’s allure and mystery.
Shyamalan collaborated with his daughter Saleka, who plays Lady Raven and contributes her own original R&B music to the film.
The music is integral to the narrative, similar to a Purple Rain-esque experience. This unique aspect promises to enhance the film’s emotional depth and thematic resonance.
While the MPA has not yet rated Trap, it is expected to be PG-13, consistent with most of Shyamalan’s films.
However, given his recent R-rated release, Knock at the Cabin, there is a possibility it could be rated R.
Shyamalan, both writer and director of Trap, is known for his ability to craft compelling and suspenseful stories.
This film returns to its original storytelling roots, featuring a fresh and innovative concept. Unlike his recent adaptations, Trap is an original idea, promising a unique viewing experience.
Shyamalan has a mixed track record, with films ranging from critically acclaimed hits like The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable to less successful ventures like The Happening and The Last Airbender.
His recent films, Old and Knock at the Cabin, received mixed reviews, but Trap has the potential to reinvigorate his reputation with its intriguing premise and strong cast.
Trap marks Shyamalan’s first film with Warner Bros., which is part of a new multi-year deal.
This collaboration also involves his daughter, Ishana Shyamalan, who will make her feature-length debut with The Watchers in June 2024.
This partnership indicates a promising future for Shyamalan’s storytelling within the Warner Bros. umbrella.
Night Shyamalan’s “Trap” will be released in theaters on August 9, 2024. With its exciting plot and stellar cast, this thriller will surely be a must-see.
